Chemistry/Physics Projects

Various links to scientific endeavors.

I’ve been a long-time amateur chemist and physicist - my particular interests lie in material science and metallurgy. The most significant chemistry project I’ve undertaken has been the synthesis of gold nanoparticles, starting from a sample of very impure gold - this required purification of the gold, and then the preparation and purification of chloroauric acid, as well as actually synthesizing the nanoparticles (gold, and gold/tin dioxide). This process was documented in part 1, 2, 3, and 4.

I also designed and built a very simple Curie-point heat engine shown in operation here, with a diagram and explanation.
